The initiators of the creation of “Humanities and Social Studies” were research workers and academic teachers of the Kielce Higher Pedagogical School further transformed into the Jan Kochanowski Świetokrzyska Academy. From 1992 till 1996 the first three volumes of the magazine, whose title was then “Kielce Social Studies” (Polish “Kieleckie Studia Społeczne”, ISSN 1230-5049), were issued. Following its resumption, the first and second volume – from 2005 and 2007, were published under the title “Humanities and Social Studies of the Świetokrzyska Academy” (Polish “Studia Humanistyczno-Społeczne Akademii Świętokrzyskiej”, ISSN 1734-4689). Starting from the third volume of 2009 the journal has been published under the current title “Humanities and Social Studies” (Polish “Studia Humanistyczno-Społeczne”, ISSN 2081-2493). The name is often abbreviated to “SHS”.

As far as the substantive approach is concerned the journal is a periodical devoted to history, political science, security, international relations, administration and law, including in particular the history of administration and law and constitutional law. Apart from essays, also source materials, reviews and reports are published in the magazine.

“Humanities and Social Studies” is issued in print by the University Press the Jan Kochanowski in Kielce (Polish: Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Jana Kochanowskiego w Kielcach). Until 2013, the journal was issued annually.  Since 2014 it has been issued as a biennial. Starting from 2016 the journal will be a quarterly.

We invite historians, political scientists and lawyers to submit their papers to be published in the subsequent volumes of “Humanities and Social Studies”.
